I’d like to thank Lifeway/B&H Publishing Group for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
After spending several mornings with the new CSB Reader’s Bible for my devotions, i’m left with one question: Why didn’t a get a Reader’s Bible sooner? I’ve really enjoyed using this Bible, and i’m going to continue to use it extensively. I’m in love with the concept of Reader Bible’s. Don’t get me wrong; i’m a sucker for a good Study Bible. They are incredibly helpful for learning information about Scripture. But there’s something incredibly refreshing about just reading the bible. No footnotes, numbers, titles, cross references, or colorful boxes. Just the Word of God in all its glory. Also, it’s refreshing to not have chapter/verse divisions. I’m not sure if many Christians know this, but the authors of Scripture did not divide up their writings into these. Paul didn’t write, “Chapter 8” before writing, “there is therefore now no condemnation. . .” in Romans. Those were added hundreds of years later to help readers quickly find and reference specific passages. While chapter/verse divisions are very useful, they can sometimes be distracting. They can often separate sections in a writing that weren’t intended to be separated. Also, many Christians will read a certain number of chapters a day, so they will stop after a chapter is over, even if the thought or narrative of that section of Scripture is not complete, which leads to not understanding that passage in its entire context as well. A good Reader’s Bible helps us to avoid these issues, and i’m grateful for that.
This particular Reader’s Bible is beautiful as well. It’s the first i’ve ever owned, so I don’t have much to compare it to, but I do know that it is very aesthetically pleasing. It is sturdy and well made. The font is a comfortable size. The text is distributed evenly. The color scheme is beautiful (Gray and Blue). The CSB is a wonderful translation.
Overall, I have enjoyed using this Bible, and I will continue to use it. I highly recommend it to anyone that is interested in diving deep into the Word without the clutter and distractions that come along with other Bibles.
