Chapter 11: Purpose Brings Contentment
“Look around at your community. Once great churches now struggle to merely maintain. Baptismal pools are dry and altars are empty. The church is aging, seemingly indifferent to the next generation. Why? We can blame economics, sociological trends, or changing demographics, but in reality, those are empty excuses. The real issue with a dying church is one thing: we’ve forgotten our purpose. And sadly, we have little desire to fix the problem.”
I hear people complain each and everyday that the church is not what they thought it would be. People sit around and complain and complain and complain, but never do anything about it. The church as a whole have become complacent in our day to day lives and we sit back and pretend like complaining will do something about it. Complaining will do absolutely nothing but make things worse.
Michael Catt wrote in his book, “It’s time for us to be the Christians we were saved to be. Then and only then, will the church once again rise up and confront this fallen world with power.” It is time for the church to rise up and become who we are meant to be! We need to stop sitting on the sidelines and waiting for someone else to do what we were created to do!
“We have a purpose for being here. We aren’t aimlessly wandering around waiting for the Second Coming. We are on a mission, and we have our assignment.” -Michael Catt
“The Power of Purpose” has reminded me of my purpose in the church and the church’s purpose in the world today. We are here for a purpose. Our lives have no purpose if we aren’t living them for Christ. Each and everything that we do should have purpose and meaning behind it! It’s time for the church to wake up, stop playing church, and start being the church.
I absolutely loved this book!!! Y’all have to go check it out!
