The Minor Prophets had a critical role to play for the nation of Israel, each one of them had a different message to share, because of the cultural context of their situations. “The Message of the Twelve” seeks to help understand the messages that each Minor Prophet had to share. Al and Gary did some very through research to help readers understand a few things, whats the message, whats the context, and why is it important. They take a very academic approach using maps, charts with Hebrew writing, and compare and contrasts to help readers understand the critical message that needed to be shared. Here are a few things that I found very helpful about this book & who is this book designed for.
1 Cultural Context: They deliver it to the reader to help them get a proper understanding on what is going on with the entire world at that period, and giving proper insight to the changes of countries and leadership
2: Global Understanding: The authors give focus to the different armies that God uses, showing how they were built and why they took over the land and what resulted by it. This goes much further then I believe we can gleam from the Bible in some ways. Showing how the world changed politically and continues to change with different conquering armies. I also appreciated how they showed how each prophet had a impact during time periods of the same ruling nation.
3 Audience: I believe after reading this that this book is made for readers wanting a academic approach to the Minor Prophets. If you in Bible College or Seminary, this book belongs on your shelfs, if your a pastor, this book will help you study and communicate the message of the Minor Prophets with a much greater understanding!
