Apologetics is the study and practice of defending one’s faith. We all, as believers, should in some way and degree be apologists. The problem most believers have with being apologists is being woefully unprepared regarding the knowledge of scripture and doctrine as well as being confident enough in their knowledge to be able to refute incorrect doctrine or philosophy and when scripture is twisted and turned to be misrepresented. Well, this study bible tries to help prepare the believer in both increasing knowledge of the scriptures and doctrine as well as showing how certain scriptures can be twisted and abused.
The Apologetics Study Bible, in the CSB from Holman, is a well made edition that is Smyth sewn on Korean paper. It is laid out in a double column format with a 9.75 point type which is very nice to read. The edition boasts many articles by well known Christian Apologists dispersed throughout the text as well as many “twisted scripture” boxes containing commentary on verse and passages of scripture which are misused, misunderstood and often abused. All of the notes in the study bible are provided from an apologetic viewpoint and that makes the whole study bible very helpful for any Christian.
This bible is a good resource but it could be better in a few ways. The different varieties of apologetics are difficult to have coinciding and used together so none of the 5 different disciplines of apologetics are fully represented and taught, which would have been nicer. I would have much rather had an Apologetics Study Bible which focused on the Classical Apologetic and explained the scriptures from that specific apologetic, or Evidential or Presuppositional or Philosophical… but to try to use all of them in part and none in whole is a disservice to all of them. That would probably be the only thing I might change, focus on one type of apologetic approach.
