She Reads Truth Bible (CSV)
I distinctly remember the day I purchased my first Bible. I was 15 years old, and my mom drove me to the Christian bookstore closest to our home. When we walked in to the store, I remember feeling overwhelmed by the sheer volume of Bibles available for purchase: there were study Bibles and simple Bibles, Bibles in different translations and Bibles with some words written in red (I thought that was an interesting use of font color), and Bibles in NIV, NKJV, NCV, and a variety of other alphabet combinations. But the kind woman working the store that day took time to sit down with me and flip through different Bibles she thought might be a match for me and my growing faith. She educated me on the differences in translations and styles of the Bibles in the store and, after much thought and consideration, I picked up my new Bible and proudly took it to the cash register.
For the next eight years, I read in that Bible nearly every day. I kept it in my backpack to take to school daily in case I might have a few moments of free time in which to read it (like a normal high schooler, right?). The pink faux-leather cover gathered stains and began crumbling as the years passed. The thin, colorful pages were covered with colored pencil highlights and handwritten notes from sermons and Bible studies that impacted me over the years. I read each of the 365 devotionals within it and was fascinated by the extra information they gave about women in the Bible and how the Scriptures could apply to the life of a teenage girl. And while it now sits carefully on one of our bookshelves (to keep it from literally falling apart at the seams), I still occasionally pull it out to look through the things God taught me throughout those teenage years.
Opening up the She Reads Truth Bible for the first time felt a little bit like the moment when I fell in love with my first Bible ten years ago. The lovely pages are filled with colorful scripture quotes, maps, timelines, and thought-provoking devotionals. The Scripture itself is easy to read in a single column and crisp font at a size that is readable for all ages! It is beautifully designed from the front and back covers (simple yet sturdy) to the details on each page. For those of us who enjoy note taking or Bible journaling, the extra-wide margins leave plenty of room for creativity and documenting. The new CSB translation is easy to read and understand, and strikes a great balance between thought-for-thought (what did the author mean) and word-for-word (what did the author actually write) in the text.
And I’ll continue gushing about all the things I love about this Bible: the reading plans for each book are manageable and easy to follow (only five readings per week…because we all know that seven rarely happen), the “going deeper” aspect of each reading finds two pieces of Scripture elsewhere in the Word that connect to the daily chapters, and the intro to each book includes helpful information such as the background, purpose, and why we should be thankful for that particular book in Scripture.
The use of color is well done and visually appealing! Each section of the Bible is color coded (history, poetry, major prophets, Gospels, Pauline epistles etc.) with a key in the back to explain each. Not sure how to read the Word or what the Gospel actually is? Clear guides to both can be found in the front of this Bible. Each book of the Bible contains a helpful and relevant map, timeline, or chart, an illustrated passage of Scripture from the book (when all of these illustrated passages are laid out in order, they illustrate the theme of God’s redemptive plan throughout Scripture), and introduction page, devotionals, and a reading plan. With different cover colors and materials to choose from, I feel any woman could find a She Reads Truth Bible that she will enjoy.
Since receiving my She Reads Truth Bible, I’ve showed it to the women I work with on campus and four of them own it! It is a great Bible for any woman looking for a Bible that is beautiful without compromising maturity and depth of content in the additional resources!
My rating? 5/5
