So you’re in leadership, now what? This is one of many questions answered in “Designed to Lead”. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and as a pastor was deeply convicted/encouraged by the approach that Eric Geiger and Kevin Peck take in applying our mission as Christians into developing leadership. There a few things that I really enjoyed from this read.
Number 1- I appreciated the focus on the Gospel. I know that being Gospel-Centered is a buzzword for things that are suppose to be innovative and catchy but these men really are Gospel-Centered. They understand what the Scripture says to us as believers and how we are to take what we find in Scripture and apply it into our lives. I appreciated how this was at the forefront.
Number 2- I appreciated how well balanced this book was between philosophy and practicalities. I think Geiger and Peck did a good job at keeping us grounded in the philosophy found in Scripture; but I also think they helped get us out of the ethereal clouds and into the real life business of developing leaders.
Number 3- I appreciated how the looked into the culture as well. The Scriptures remind us to be in the world but not of the world. I think these men present us with a wholistic view of developing leaders all the way from “Conviction, to Culture, to Constructs”.
If you are in a leadership position at the church then you should read this book to help you think through discipleship and leadership development. If you are in a position of authority of other leaders then you should take your entire team through this book. You will be blessed.
