While most books on pastoral ministry focus on the practical duties of ministry, this work Pastoral Theology lays a theological framework form pastoral ministry. This book, authored by Daniel Akin and Scott Pace is an important book for pastors to remember the theological and biblical foundations for their ministry.
They subdivide the book into three sections. Section one is the “Trinitarian Foundation.” Section two is the “Doctrinal Formulation.” While section three looks at the “Practical Facilitation.” While the entire book is a good read and theologically based, I enjoyed section two the most. Doctrine. It is adherence to sound doctrine on which our ministry rises and falls. In this section they look at the anthropological, ecclesiological, and missiological components of doctrine.
I would strongly recommend this work to those in ministry and those feeling called to ministry.
