What About Me? Seeing Yourself the Way God Sees You by Vicki Courtney is a rock solid discipleship tool for girls ages 9-12. 206 pages of relevant truth will launch discussion, but more importantly inspire thoughts that go beyond the superficial. The book is divided into four sections: Mirror, Mirror, That Thing You Do, Get More Likes, and The Truth of the Matter. Each section is a delightful mix of narrative, discussion, quizzes, quirky (but true) facts, scripture (plus ‘break it down’ interpretation), been there, done that examples (from THE high school girls), immediate technology (QR codes), etc. centered on the unique gift of who God made these girls to be from the inside out.
As the mother of a twelve year old girl, I love that this book is colorful, fun, age appropriate, and interactive. However, there are many secular books on the market that hit those marketing musts all day long. In fact, I’ve poured a lot of money into the technicolor glittery world of tween cover appeal. Vicki Courtney and company went beyond the cover and into the depths of what matters. What About Me? is God-honoring and the truths presented between the pages will last beyond the age range. To see beyond the mirror, beyond social media, beyond the magazine image and into God’s reflection of the intricacies of their beauty, their purpose, their worth is truly invaluable.
5 stars from this mom. And a sweet, sincere note of thanks.
