The NKJV Reader’s Bible is one of the newest entrants into the single column, paragraph style formatted Bibles aimed at readers who enjoy a more “novel” reading experience. The edition I received is a well made black / brown “tooled leather” Bible, similar to a nicely made hardcover book. It’s comparable in size to my ESV Reader’s Bible, but different in some of its appointments.
The NKJV benefits from a slightly smaller form factor, and a nicer overall look. The type and page thickness between the two Bibles are similar, although I personally prefer the font choice and paper color of the ESV over the NKJV edition. It is certainly a personal preference, as both editions have the normal Bible page thickness / opacity that shows some of the print on the opposing side of the pages.
Overall, I think the NKJV is a nice entry into the Reader Bible editions available on the market. At a retail price of $39.99, the price is comparable to other nicer hardcover Bibles. If you’ve been waiting for a reader’s edition of the NKJV, here you go! Me? I’ll probably stick to my ESV and let my wife enjoy the more stylish looking NKJV. ?
