If you have looked through my blog or subscribed to it for a while, you will probably notice that I am very interested in promoting actual studying of the Scriptures rather than only reading them. It is a way that makes the Scriptures come alive to you and also helps you to truly understand and interpret correctly when you use the proper approach. One of those approaches is the Inductive Bible Study method, which we did a 10-week class at our church on how to study the Bible using this method.
I was very excited to get a copy in my hands of the “Inductive Bible Study: Observation, Interpretation, and Application through the Lenses of History, Literature and Theology” book from B&H Academic to do a review on it. The authors wrote this book in a way that could classify it as a college level textbook, but even so, this book is very helpful even for an individual person to learn so much from it. With that said, this is not the typical “precept ministries” level of Inductive Bible Study. I’m not saying they aren’t good – if it weren’t for them, I’m not sure I would have gotten into this method of Bible study. they are geared more towards someone who wants to dive lightly into the method in a majority of their Bible study materials. This book, however, dives very deeply into the method and provides amazing tools to help you. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to dive deep into their inductive Bible studying. In all honesty, it is probably the best book on doing an in-depth inductive Bible study that I have read so far.
I received a copy of this book from B&H Academic for me to do a review on it. In full disclosure, I was not required or requested by B&H Academic to write a positive review.
I would give this book a 9.8 out of my normal 10 point rating scale. On a “5 star” scale that some websites use, I would give it a very solid 5 star rating.
The opinions I have expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255

The authors really do an excellent job on covering the Inductive Bible Study method in an in-depth manner. They also incorporate what the Bible is from a history, literature and theological perspective which really deepens the study even more. I really appreciated so many aspects of this book, that I’m not really able to point out what my favorite part really is. The way they wrote this book really serves as an excellent guide on how to do an in-depth inductive Bible study. Guidance, wisdom and practical advice are very prevalent in this book. If you have never done an inductive Bible study before, this book will help you, but I encourage you to take your time and really go through this book as a guide on how to do it properly. Don’t get intimidated by the steps of this method or in this book. Take them one at a time – with patience and practice, you will see that the Word of God will come alive like never before and your relationship with Him will deepen. This book will be referenced in my library for many years to come as I work on deepening my study of God’s Word. I can honestly say that this book is a “must have” for anyone interested in going deeper with their study of God’s Word!

The ease of reading this book was very good. Good printing and opaque paper make this easy to read the text on every page with very little show-through.
Ease of Use:
Readability of this book was very good. For someone who has a general knowledge of the Inductive Bible Study method, this book is very easy to read and understand, yet full of such wisdom and so practical to anyone that wants to either start or improve their expository preaching. For someone who has never heard of the Inductive Bible Study method, this book will still be such a valuable resource for you – you may just have to go a little slower through the guidance of this book. Plus chapter 2 gives an excellent overview of the Inductive Bible Study method, so that will immensely help both beginners and experienced people alike. You can also check out the videos on how to do the inductive method HERE and leave a comment or contact me if you have any questions on it. Overall, this book is VERY well done and VERY highly recommended.
