When I think of Jesus, I often go over the many ways in which he’s brought joy and peace to my life. His teachings have given me wisdom and His existence, a foundation of support and refuge. There are so many other ways in which he’s made my life better, and when I flip through the Bible, I often find various names and titles to reference Him–according to who He really is. Just recently, I had an opportunity to read a book that focuses on some of those very important names. 100 Days with Jesus by Diann Cotton offers a glimpse into the very character of Jesus, and has been bringing me even closer in my relationship with Him.
100 Days with Jesus is a compact devotional with a beautiful navy, linen hardcover and pretty gold etchings of a forest, along with the star of Bethlehem, front and center. What’s even more lovely is the contents. Starting from day one though one hundred, readers are taken on a daily journey to discover the many characters of Jesus, how he was known then and how he is still known, today. Each day begins with a new name or description that fits the life of Jesus, his impact, and who He really is. These names are taken from a passage in the Bible. I personally like that the author doesn’t just include the name, but also references the actual scripture of where it can be found. A definition is also given in order to enlighten and prepare the reader with a knowledge of how the term (name) is referenced.
The third part of each daily devotion, and one of the most influential areas is where a special prayer is shared to celebrate and praise Jesus for his attributes. A final note or question is offered to help readers reflect on what they’ve just read and what each name personally means to them. Along with a daily reading, I was captured away by the serene photography included on each adjacent page. The chosen illustrations really help set the mood and offer a tranquil reading experience.
Each daily devotional is short and to the point, which allows me to incorporate this right into my daily Bible readings. The truth is, I have enjoyed reading each daily passage so much, I normally don’t read just one, but several in the same sitting. It’s something inside that leaves me wanting to hear more about Jesus and all that He is.
100 Days with Jesus would make a beautiful addition to any Bible study. The book is also really lovely and one that would serve as the perfect gift to someone who may be seeking to learn more about Jesus and His impact in their life.
