My Review of “Theology, Church and Ministry” Edited by David S Dockery
What is the role for Theology in the Church? What is Theology? How does it apply to my role as a Pastor or leader? Theology, Church, and Ministry seeks to help connect the role Theology and how it applies to the Bible and Christian ministry. Its listed as a tool for Pastors and Leaders who have not had very much theological training to be a tool to understand the Bible and Christian ministry. The book starts out breaking down theology, talking about baptism, the role of theological education, and a brief history. Then it goes to how the bible was inspired, written, and most importantly how it was canonized. Then the book takes you to the languages both the New and Old Testament was written in, then introductions to the OT/NT, where it provides a great learning tool/teaching tool to learn the different elements of the OT and the continuous Theological concepts and implications. The book covers many different topics from, apologetics, to preaching, and even carefully breaks down the importance of Systematic Theology.
When I look at this book, I think it provides a great education to someone who leads a church, or a a home church who may of not have gone to college to study ministry. This book is also great for people who want a overview of Christian doctrine and teaching, as it is very readable. This book is also a great gift to young ministers, to help sharpen them to understand concisely different elements of ministry. Pastors could easily use this book to teach a class on theology! This book provided a great resource to me several times, because during the time I was reading and reviewing it, several people asked me questions that I was able to answer quickly and accurately because of my reading! I Highly recommend this book to anyone who serves in ministry, to help them learn and teach
