Sarabeth is not quite ready to start school yet. But that doesn’t mean I’m not on the lookout for great resources to help when we do start some basic schooling in the fall. Because she’s not old enough to officially start school, we get to play around with different things. Do things our own way so to speak.
Reading has been a big pastime for me. It’s something I hope and pray Sarabeth picks up as well. So, to that end, I am always on the hunt for books that will help capture her attention. And build in her a love for storytelling.
100+ Little Bible Words give you the opportunity to build a love for books through storytelling and great pictures too. Each set of pages tells an individual story of the Bible. There is a scripture that gives you a small picture of the story.
The bright colored pictures are filled with basic words that help you build your child’s vocabulary. And they give you an opportunity to teach your child the stories of the Bible in a way that makes sense for their current understanding.
Sarabeth and I sat down together as soon as the book came in. She saw the cover and immediately climbed in my lap to let me read to her. At 2 1/2, we stuck to the basics, pointing out words and the pictures that went with them.
She loved pointing out words or finding pictures as I gave her a word to find. The words in each story highlight the main points of the story. They not only help build vocabulary, but they also help you tell the story.
I find myself having a bit of a love/hate relationship with the fact that each page does not have a written story. On one hand, I love that the book is a bit more freeform and you can tailor it to your child. On the other, I occasionally found myself missing some of the main points of the story if I wasn’t paying close enough attention to the pictures.
Sarabeth keeps coming back to 100+ Little Bible Words though, and that means it’s a winner in our house!
